If you have a child who loves to read, lucky you! I know, I know, you get tired of trying to get him/her to do anything else, like clean their room, feed the dog, wash the dishes, or take out the trash. But just think of what this annoying little pastime is doing for their life.
Reading will enhance the vocabulary, broaden the world view, spark the imagination, kindle ambition, and enhance the general intelligence. Unless your child is stuck in a meaningless series of books that are of little value, their reading fetish is actually helpful to them.
Of course you may need to set some time limits if it really gets out of control, but good books for kids offer many great benefits to the child who will read. So perhaps the best thing to do about it is to make sure he/she is reading books that offer educational value along with their story appeal. And be glad your child likes to read. It’s a much better thing to deal with than the child who hates reading!
