Do you have a special place where you like to read? Is it somewhere that feels strange to be empty handed? The ties between what we read and where are sometimes so strong that it is difficult to change. Did you ever try to read say a business book where youd normally sit to read a novel? Did you struggle to get through more than a few pages? Our minds associate certain activities with certain positions and sometimes this can be difficult to break. Instead of trying to fight it, it may be better to find a location to suit the type of reading youd like to do. In this article, Im going to cover a few common venues and recommend reading material to suit.

1.At work. Reading a novel while sitting at my desk in front of my computer feels downright weird to me. To be honest, reading anything other than business material can be difficult. Of course, because of my job as editor of Espresso Fiction Im often reading short stories while sitting at my desk and that feels OK. In fact, when I find a story that I really get into, its a complete break as I have no awareness of other noises or distractions. And when Ive finished I have no sense of time. It usually takes a minute or two and then Im back in the present but for that 15 minutes or so I am somewhere completely different. And thats one of the things I love about fiction; it transports you wherever the author wants to take you.

2.Outside. Lounging by the pool on a sunbed or sitting on the grass is a great spot for reading a gripping novel. That way you can effortlessly block out the surrounding noise. Of course, if you are supposed to be watching children then a novel is not the best choice. You would be wiser to choose something that you can drop in and out of without constantly losing the flow of your reading.

3.Hammock. My husband recently put up ours after I pointedly showed him exactly where it could go and we discussed at length how it could be fixed into place. Boy, did I miss having it. Lying stretched out and staring at the sky and the trees and listening to the birds is a really lovely experience. The only problem with reading in a hammock is staying awake! So choose your material wisely something funny or lively is your best bet if you dont want to drop off to sleep within a few short minutes.

4.In bed. Reading in bed seems to be a very common reading position as its a great way to turn off from the stresses of the day and ease into sleep. Ive found its best not to pick anything too stimulating because my mind starts racing (the very opposite of what I want) or complicated because then I give up without reading more than a page or so (this makes for a very long read and usually ends with me putting the book aside in favor of something else).

5.Sofa. Another great reading venue because your body gets to rest too. This can be a great spot for reading a novel or if time is limited a short story.

6.Coffee Shop. This is the perfect place to read your favorite magazine or short story, something that holds your attention but can tolerate the inevitable interruptions. Both are something you can sink into and pop out of at the other end feeling refreshed.

7.Aeroplane. A long novel that grabs you from the very beginning and doesnt let you go makes time go really fast. If youve ever been on a long flight with a great book and not wanted the flight to end until you finish the book then you will know what I mean.

8.Public transport. Again you need to choose your reading material carefully. A novel which is too engaging may have you missing your stop and hankering to get back to your book as soon as possible. It is better to find material that suits the length of your journey articles or short stories for short trips and magazines and more complex or thought provoking novels for longer journeys. Public transport is a perfect place to daydream so something which requires reflection and thought can be perfect if time allows.

What is your favorite reading venue and position? Do you vary your reading material to suit your location?

A blog is a type of websi.e.maintained by means of regular entries of commentary, descriptions of events, graphics and or video. A blog is a very simple method for promoting your individual internet business opportunity with practical and valuable content; content that can be applied to any business whether online or offline.

The written content you post on your blog is referred to as a “blog post.” Your blog posts can show up in the search engine results of Google for specific keywords that are in your posts. For example, if you wrote a blog post about “the difference between top tier direct sales and MLM,” your blog could show up in Google’s results when someone searches for “top tier direct sales”. Blog post entries are generally displayed in reverse-chronological order.

Blogs provide commentary on a particular subject or can function as more personal online diary. A typical blog combines text, images, and links to other blogs, web pages, and other media related to its topic. The ability for readers to leave comments is an important element of many blogs. Most blogs are generally text, although most will also include photographs and videos. Micro blogging is another type of blogging, featuring very short posts.

The following.list provides some incredible statistics and the significance of a blog for today’s internet marketer.

Few personal blogs rise to fame but some personal blogs quickly acquire a widespread following. Microblogging is form of a personal blog which is extremely detailed and seeks to capture a moment in time. Sites such as Twitter and Facebook allow bloggers to share thoughts instantaneously with friends and family and are much faster than e-mailing or writing.

Corporate and Organizational Blogs
A blog can be private or it can be for utilized for business purposes. Blogs used for marketing, branding or public relations purposes are called corporate blogs. Similar blogs for clubs and societies are called club blogs, group blogs, etc.; typically used to inform members and interested parties of club and member activities.

By Media Type
A blog comprising videos is called a vlog, one comprising links is called a linklog, a site containing a portfolio of sketches is called a sketchblog or one comprising photos is called a photoblog. Blogs with shorter posts and mixed media types are called tumblelogs.

A blog is primarily a website that allows you to quickly and easily add fresh content whenever you wish. Blogs are easy to publish (you only need to know how to type, easy to find (your audience can easily find your content), social (a great way to build a presence in the online community), viral (your blog posts can be virally distributed), and easy to link to and from. Blogs do require frequent and ongoing maintenance as the addition of fresh content – writing, photos, video, etc. – is necessary in order for a blog to remain effective. The content should be relevant, informative, thought provoking, etc…

There are many different blogging platforms. If you are new to blogging WordPress.com is a very simple platform for ease of setup. 2. Select a theme
3. Select a hosting account (this can be done at a late time)
4. Write Your First Blog Post

Easy Ways to Get Blog Post Ideas:
• Write down 5 things you learned today, and post it on your blog.
• When you learn something new, post it on your blog.
• When you do something fun, post it on your blog.
• When you make a video, post it on your blog.
• When you take new pictures, post them on your blog along with a description of what you did.
• When you have a strong opinion about something, post it on your blog.
• When you submit a new article or press release, post the link with a brief summary on your blog.
• If you have the solution to a common problem in the industry, make a blog post.

5. “Ping” It
When you “ping” your blog you are notifying the search engines that you have new content on your blog.
• Step One: Go to Pingomatic.com
• Step Two: Enter the name and the URL of your blog.
• Step Three: Click all blog services to Ping.
• Step Four: Make sure you ping every time you update your blog with new content.

6. Manage Comments
Comments are good; it means you have active readers. Make a point to respond to your readers who take the time to leave a comment. If someone makes a general comment you can always respond with “Thanks for your comments. They are valued.” If you disagree with a comment one of your readers let them know WHY you disagree. Don’t be defensive or confrontational. Be open to joining the conversation and supporting your opinion in a rational effective manner. Remember, you want to give your readers a reason to regularly return to your blog.

You are now on your way to becoming a professional blogger. Here are several basic tips and tricks.

• Don’t ever plagiarize. If you are quoting content from another source be sure to cite your references and include any appropriate links.
• Always be yourself and be original.
• Share your opinions.
• Avoid clichés.
• Provide Fresh Content
• Provide real content, not just sales’ pitches. Your blog posts should not sound like sales’ pitches. You should be sharing valuable thoughts, ideas, and opinions with your readers. As a general rule in blogging and in marketing in general, you want to provide 80% content for every 20% sales pitches.
• Engage in meaningful dialogue with your readers through comments. Your audience will increase as your readers share your blog with their circle of influence and they’ll be more likely to do this if you take the time to acknowledge their interest in your blog.
• When sharing your opinions, consider framing your thoughts in such a way where you acknowledge that you could be wrong. If you come across as being close-minded to new ideas or other viewpoints you run the risk of turning your readers off. However, if you pose your opinions from a “here’s what I’m thinking right now” perspective, you could encourage some healthy debate in your comments. With that said, some of the most successful blogs are highly controversial and unapologetically opinionated.
• Check out other blogs. Examine other blogger’s styles and discover what you like and what you don’t like.

The following are several more advanced suggestions:

1. Blogging Etiquette
When you include a link to another site in your blog post WordPress will automatically “ping” that site letting them know you just linked to them. If both blogs are on the same platform you should see a reference to your trackback link in their comments section. When someone links to your blog you should always go check out their blog and then leave a thoughtful, intelligent comment on their blog. Include your blog’s URL with your name in the comment and this will not only foster two-way communication between you and the other blogger, but will also encourage their readers to also check out your blog.

2. Submit Your Blogs to Web 2.0 Sites
You can get ranks to specific keyword posts with the keyword by submitting your post to all the Web 2.0 sites with a service called Socialmarker.com. After you input your title, URL, descriptions and your username and password to each site, Socialmarker will submit your post to 20 to 30 Web 2.0 sites for you with one-button simplicity.

3. Optimize Your Blog for Search Engines
If you have a post that you want to push up in the search engine results you will want to have your keywords in the title of your post, in the first paragraph and in the closing or concluding paragraph.
A simple trick to include your keyword or keyword phrase in your title is to create a title such as “How to find/do (insert keyword)”.

As you become proficient with blogging you might want to consider advertising on your own blog. To accomplish this you will have to setup a self hosted blog i.e. WordPress.org. This will allow to place your own text or banner ads on your site or to take advantage of an advertising network such as Google AdSense. A self-hosted WordPress.org site will also provide you with much more flexibility with the layout, design and advertising options on your blog.

For skiing or snowboarding enthusiasts, snow ski goggles are an essential item within the protective apparel needed for the sport. They are both a safety attribute and help to enhance your comfort whilst enjoying the slopes – not to mention they can look really stylish too! There are many types of snow goggles with special features to suit your individual style of riding, your location and the conditions of the weather on any given adventure. Through wearing goggles, you eliminate discomforts and safety hazards that can hinder the amount of fun you can have taking part in winter sports.- which means that choosing the right pair is worth your consideration.

There are three main things to think about when choosing the best snow ski goggles – the fit, frame and the lens features. Taking a look at the fit first, goggles should always be snug and never loose or too tight – almost like when you would look for the right size snow-boots. You will likely wear a hat or helmet when active on the slopes, so it is important to take this into account and try to fit them whilst wearing your chosen hat/helmet. To the front, the foam that protects your face from the frame should feel the same throughout – there should never be a spot that feels particularly tight or loose. For those of you who must wear prescriptive glasses, make sure that your goggle will also accommodate their presence.

The frame of snow ski goggles is another important factor when choosing the right pair for you. In any case, the goggles should be of good quality and the frame will have some flexibility. Double check that the frame has air vents; they are covered with foam but allow for air circulation and a clear view (no fogging up!)

Finally, the lens should be of a good standard and the best will have a double lens feature in their snow ski goggles. There will be less chance of fogging and a better thermal barrier. The chamber between the lenses should be fully airtight to prevent any mist collecting on the lens. From the materials that are used for this purpose, polycarbonate lenses are considered to be the best quality for all winter sports. A coating is also a good feature to some of the better quality snow goggles on offer – look for those that guarantee protection against scratching or distortion.

There is another feature to choosing snow ski goggles that can be a determining factor to the choice you make. The colour of the lens can make differences to your riding and may offer better vision in certain weather conditions. A clear lens is often used for night riding or in severe weather conditions for a clear vision. A yellow lens will help on darker days when you need more contrast and to brighten up the view.

Pink coloured lenses are an all-rounder and work well for most conditions – if you need one pair at a reasonable price then they might be the best option. There are some lenses that will change colour called modulator lenses – these will be helpful if you expect a change in weather conditions or if you will be out the entire day. The other option is polarized snow goggles that help to reduce the glare from bright light and snow.

A vital skill in becoming an effective communicator is the ability to listen. Listening skills are not taught in school, and sadly are largely undeveloped skill in many people. To listen effectively is a powerful skill that can be learnt and practiced. You will gain more respect and esteem through listening rather than through talking

Its funny how sometimes you associate a certain phrase with someone. I knew someone called Ray and what I remember about him the most was when he was listening to someone talk he would keep saying I hear you I would wonder whether he was saying that because he heard, but disagreed with what the person was saying, or if it was a noncommittal filler

There is however a great difference between hearing and listening. Hearing refers to the physical dimension of the sound waves striking the ear and the brain processing them into meaningful information. Listening, however, involves far more than the hearing process. It incorporates paying attention and focusing with the intention of understanding and responding appropriately.

The most basic of all human needs is the need to understand and to be understood. The best way to understand people is to listen to them. Not only that but when people feel that you have really listened to them, you will gain their respect and they will value and give you the credibility to speak.

Consider how you feel when you sense someone is really listening to what you have to say.
You feel good, you feel understood, and more connected to the person who is listening. The fact that they are interested causes you to feel cared for.

One important element of listening is the ability to attend.
Attending is the process where we focus in on a message and filter out others that are distracting. It is to be able to focus on what the person is saying, and filter out all the other things that may be happening at the same time.

Someone once said (his name was anonymous) that the reason history repeats itself is because no one was listening the first time. When I first heard that, I realized history always repeating in my house especially around bedtime! That is the time when my kids practice attending. They focus on what they are doing (and its not homework) and filter me out as a distraction each time I remind them that its bedtime!

One of the biggest distractions to attending is our desire to talk
The desire to talk is so strong that while the other person is talking we can be thinking about what we are going to say next, and waiting for an opportunity to speak. As we focus on what we are going to say or interject, our attention goes from what the person is saying to our own thoughts. Although appearing to be interested and attentive, we can easily be distracted by our thoughts or something else that may be happening at the same time. At that point perhaps we do fall into merely hearing and not listening. Our minds attention has drifted onto other things and is no longer intent on understanding and responding.

True listening is a skill which needs to be learnt and practiced because the mind functions seven times more quickly than it is possible to speak. Therefore the mind needs to be slowed down and focused on what the person is saying, and not pay attention to other irrelevant thoughts or distractions.

One of my all time favourite books is The Success Principles written by Jack Canfield.
One of the Principles he writes about in the book is how to use the power of listening as a way of building rapport and connecting with people. Jack created a series of four questions that he uses in personal and business situations. He asks the questions one after another. The first time he tried it was with his sister Kim. He asked the first question and listened to her response. When she had finished he asked the next question, and continued in this manner through all the questions.
Afterwards Kim
smiled said to him Thats the best conversation I think weve ever had. I feel so clear and focused. I know exactly what I need to go and do now. Thank you He was amazed as he hadnt said a word except to ask the four questions, and had resisted the inclination to jump in with his own responses. He has found this works everytime and uses the questions frequently.

I have used this strategy, but by using my own questions and have been amazed at the results. Not only have the questions given me a greater understanding of the person, but through the fact of actively listening to people without commenting or putting my 2 cents worth in they have experienced encouragement and a sense of connectedness. I now make sure that I ask questions and listen more than I speak.

I want you to take a moment now to think of a question that you could use to practice actively listening, and resist the impulse to speak. When you have the opportunity, use your question or questions and experience the power of building rapport with others through the power of listening.

When you think of adventure travel, what crosses your mind?

Hiking?
White water rafting?
Scuba diving?
Something as sedentary as a cruise ship or land rover safari?

Those ideas lose their adventure status when you compare them to galloping on a horse in Africa with a zebra and wildebeest racing along side you, or quietly observing the elephant and giraffe.

How can a traveler visit the remote parts of the worlds most beautiful and interesting places while…

Practicing a fascinating sport
Avoiding polluting
Keeping in harmony with history and nature
Being free to explore exotic locations
Making friends in remote places, and
Sharing the experience with a willing animal?

Have you ever considered the tremendous advantages of adventure travel on horseback? A horse can take you to beautiful and remote places which are difficult to reach in any other way. At the same time, you can practice a challenging sport which has been a favorite of mankind for millennia.

Destinations like Africa, Asia, Europe and South America offer a wonderful variety of adventure tours on horseback. Though comparatively little known to Americans, the British and particularly the French have highly developed the riding tour concept in many parts of the world. In many locations in the United States rights-of-way for horses have been lost, but many still exist in other countries.

Horses and horseback riding are deeply woven into the culture and history of most cultures from Argentina to Ireland. This is how our ancestors traveled and for those with a sense of history there is no more appropriate way to go. If you arrive in a foreign place on horseback, you will most likely be enthusiastically greeted by locals with waves and smiles which greatly facilitate meaningful contacts. Those who arrive by bus, on foot or on a bicycle are usually ignored. Horses are a great introduction and ice breaker almost anywhere.

If you seek a wilderness adventure, then horses are the way to go unless you want to walk and carry your equipment. Riding tours can take you from inn to inn, castle to castle, palace to palace or from one comfortable camp to another. Costs are very reasonably compared to biking or bus trips.

Horseback riding adventures vary widely in the skill and experience required to handle them safely. Most of these tours move out at all paces and include some good gallops so that one can cover 15 to 35 miles in a day. Beginners need several days of instruction before attempting even an easy trip, but those who are reasonably fit, not too overweight and have open minds can catch on very quickly. A week of intensive riding with good instruction can easily prepare most people for the less demanding adventures.

One of the enormous advantages of travel on horseback is that you are sharing the adventure with a willing animal who is also interested in the sights and sounds and who loves a brisk gallop on a beach or open plain as much as you do. A day in the saddle is also great exercise and riding is an excellent way to keep fit while having fun. It is far more interesting and satisfying than sitting confined in a bus or land rover all day which really isnt adventure travel at all. Another dividend is the keen appetite you develop after a day in the saddle for the delicious food you will be served.

On an African ride, a good horse can outdistance an irate Cape buffalo or elephant and keep you safe. Comfortable camps are set up for you each night, the food is excellent and the service superb. Or try a horseback tour visiting the castles of the Loire Valley and ride into the courtyards on your horse like a knight of old. You can gallop along forest tracks where the French aristocracy once chased the wild stag. There is a broad spectrum of possibilities available for horseback riding vacations.

If it appeals to you to travel in harmony with nature without using polluting, noisy machines or an unresponsive bicycle, then you should look into horseback riding tours.

Got a passion for sports? Heard the name Michael Jordan? If so, then I bet you love basketball and you are familiar with the Washington Wizards.

For those who dont know much about the Washington Wizards, note that Wizards is a professional basketball team and one of the seven teams in the Atlantic Division of the Eastern Conference of the National Basketball Association (NBA). Reports have it that the team was founded as the Chicago Packers and they also played the Chicago Zephyrs, Baltimore Bullets, and Washington Bullets before adopting its current name the Washington Wizards.

The team entered the National Basketball Association (NBA) in the 1961-62 season as the Chicago Packers. That time, they only won 18 games in the first season. However, despite the poor start, they boasted their talented rookie center Walt Bellamy, who averaged 31.6 points and 19 rebounds per game and won the leagues rookie of the year award. The franchise had undergone changes not only in names, but also with the members of the team. Perhaps, the most well-known names that led the Wizards to fame are Gene Shue, Dick Motta, Jeff Malone, Bernard King, and Michael Jordan.

Theres a lot more to tell about the Washington Wizards. What I have mentioned above is just a sort of background. Now that you are a bit interested to know more about the team, then I suggest that you look for some Wizards message boards online. You are free to post anything you want to say, provided that you are not offending anybody on the community. Just be careful with your words and Wizards message boards are participated by different people of different personalities. Note that the members of the Wizards message boards are not just those who are optimistic about the Washington Wizards. There are also some who hate the Wizards.

To make everything easy for you, I have here below a few of the most visited Wizards message boards online. Just note them and try to visit them if you have time. However, for you to post a message on these Wizards message boards, you need to register first. Dont worry because these Wizards message boards dont require fees for the membership. I am presuming you are just starting out in the cleaning? business and you want to develop into a successful cleaning company. You have chosen to enter one of the most competitive markets. So how are you going to succeed? How are you going to obtain constant growth. Many cleaning concerns limit themselves to their few customers and do not want to expand and grow, but you are not one of these.

You could pick a niche market and concentrate solely on that. For example computer cleaning, keyboards, screens etc is one such niche that could be exploited. However you would have to develop a very large customer base because it is not something that is carried out on a weekly basis. The same is true for most forms of specialised cleaning. Another example would be oven cleaning. With this the potential customer base is much larger because you are aiming at the domestic customer, and there are more potential domestic customers than there are commercial ones.

Picking a niche market does not mean that you cannot be successful but it does limit your prospects.

You could widen your market and choose to go down the domestic cleaning route. The requirement for domestic cleaners is estimated to grow considerably over the next few years and many analysts suggest that this is a largely untapped market waiting to be exploited. Even here you could be missing out on opportunities if you simply offer what many domestic cleaning firms do, that is providing a cleaner who might also do some ironing. What about the windows and carpets? You could be increasing your turnover by exploiting these areas of cleaning. Why would a customer want to go to the trouble of finding separate cleaners for these tasks when you could be offering the complete package?

Exactly the same scenario applies to those firms who choose to follow the commercial cleaning route. Why restrict yourself to just office cleaning? Discover what other forms of cleaning your customers require and become expert at those as well. Commercial customers are more likely to accept your quotation if you can offer them a complete cleaning package that meets all their cleaning requirements. This takes away the necessity for them to have to find a carpet cleaner or window cleaner and simplifies their accounting process. It is highly likely that this is the way cleaning in the future will be approached by certainly the larger companies. Many of them are already striving to find cleaning companies who can offer them the complete package. Why get left behind?? Become an expert in all forms of cleaning so that your company can take advantage of this trend.

My old farm tractor is the best toy I ever bought. I’m a simple man, I used to enjoy working on my car, changing the plugs, tuning the carburetor, just plain ‘ole tinkering; that changed (along with the rest of the world) when computers entered the picture. And while they have revolutionized the way we live and work, they made tinkering a thing of the past. I refused to let that happen when I bought my first old farm tractor. I’m not a farmer by trade, but I love the land and enjoy dragging my bush hog, it keeps me in touch with the land. And tinkering? Well that keeps my old farm tractor running smooth and gives me some time away from the keyboard.

I learned a lot when I started looking for my first old farm tractor. Old is just a term if the older tractor runs good and does the job intended, but be certain to check thoroughly when shopping. In my case, I brought a neighbor of mine along who just happened to be a John Deere rep, feeling certain he’d give my potential old farm tractor purchase, a good “once over”.

Of course what’s a good older tractor for me, might not be your bailiwick at all, different strokes for different folks. So ask yourself (like you didn’t already know) are you buying the old farm tractor for work or play (restoration)? Are you looking to save money with an older tractor, or are you waxing nostalgic and looking to create a pristine show tractor?

Another thing to consider is the kind of service you’ll expect; will you be working the field, tinkering like I do, or only bringing the old farm tractor out for county fairs. In any of these cases, when you’re looking an older tractor, you’ll want to make certain she’s mechanically sound. If you’re actually a collector (or tinkerer) chances are you’ll know a local mechanic to bring along, they are worth their weight, believe me and could help you find a gem, or avoid a lemon.

First thing my John Deere rep did was climb on the old workhorse to see if she started up easy, telling me if she did, that’s a good indicator that the battery, compression, ignition and fuel lines are in working order. Now if it doesn’t start, don’t head for the hills, just make sure the price is right, since it will need a bit of work.

The farmer who owned the old farm tractor told us to go ahead and… “Take ‘er for a spin”, he smiled then walked away to do some chores. While all sellers might not be so friendly, it’s very important to test the tractor engine when it’s warmed up; are then any leaks, how does the engine sound? Then, shut her down, and see if the old farm tractor starts again.

While you’re warming the old farm tractor up, and assuming you have the go ahead to actually take her out of the barn, check the brakes, if there okay, great, another mark for the plus column, if they’re mushy and might need work, ask how difficult a brake job is, some older tractors have brakes that are very difficult to work on; this is where that farm tractor mechanic friend will come in.

Check to see if the exhaust is, a little blue or black smoke might just indicate a needed tune-up, blue smoke may say ring job. If so, plan accordingly, or find another old gem to buy.

Listen closely to how the old farm tractor engine sounds any unusual deep throated clunking sounds? Let’s hope not, but if do, time to thank the owner for his time, and head for the next prospective choice.

Years ago, back when they had “full service” gas stations, I remember the attendant saying… “Check the oil sir”? And that is definitely something you should do with your older (antique) tractor. Oil in a tractor is the lifeblood, does it look clear (indicating a recent change); or is there foam or water present. If you see drops of water that might be the head gasket and serious problems might exist. Water in the oil is NEVER a good sign; again, time for a “thank you and goodbye”.

Anytime you purchase a piece of machinery with the “new” worn off, take the time to be certain your purchase has aged gracefully. None of us want to see an old antique tractor rusting in a field, but neither do we want to buy a “pig in a poke”. Ask, look, examine, test; and if you’re satisfied, whip out the checkbook, put a smile on a farmer’s face, then take the old farm tractor home and get some work done.

Its true. The key to understanding health can be summed up with one simple formula. (Even if those math courses werent your favorite, this is one you wont want to ignore.) The formula is: your health is directly proportionate to the time and quality you devote to it. Or, in mathematical terms:
Health = Time x Quality

To Everything Turn, Turn, Turn

Peter Seeger had it right in his hit song theres time for every purpose. What he forgot to mention is that how you spend your time is your choice. And that choice affects your health. For example, the woman who works out 45 minutes, 5 days a week every week will see greater results than the woman who works out 45 minutes, 5 days a month. Likewise, the man whose diet varies between fast food and healthy food (whole grains, fruits, veggies, proteins) will not benefit as much as the man who consistently consumes only healthy food. How much time you spend, or how consistent you are in your quest for health is a direct variable to your health.

Work Hard, Play Hard

Yes, the quality of your food, supplements, and exercise are important. But the quality of your mindset is vital. In this day and age of multi-tasking, the idea of focusing on the task at hand seems to be outdated. But when were talking about something as serious as your health (i.e. your life), maybe its time to get your mind in the game.

How Do You Rate?

Poor Health = Inconsistent Time x Low-Quality
Excellent Health = Consistent Time x High-Quality

That old saying still holds true: You only get out of it what you put into it. So, evaluate and then re-evaluate. Keep what works and change what doesnt. Its the only way to improve. You just may find that in the process, you are not only becoming healthier, but your life is fuller and holds more meaning.

Why temperature is so important

NB. F = Degrees Fahrenheit and C = Degrees Centigrade

Temperature is critical in determining how long to cook a turkey, for the simple fact that the bird must have reached a uniform temperature of at least 165 F throughout in order to destroy harmful bacteria. You do not want to give your guests food poisoning!

The turkey is a weird shaped food source! – Large body covered with thick flesh around the breast area, large legs made up of dense muscle and a large internal cavity. Because of this, it is not so easy as cooking a single joint of meet for example. The breast meat tends to cook much faster that the dense muscular leg meat, so there is a risk of over-cooking the breast meat whilst waiting for the leg meat to cook thoroughly.

Deciding how long to cook a turkey is not an easy question to answer as there are so many variable factors to consider.

The type of oven

With conventional gas or electric ovens (not Microwave, Convection, Rotisserie) the top of the oven is the hottest zone. The middle part of the oven is usually the coolest zone. The bottom part of the oven is usually also a cool zone in a gas oven, but in an electric oven this area can be a hot zone. As the turkey will remain in the same position throughout the cooking cycle, this will influence the length of time and how evenly the turkey cooks.

Microwave ovens work on an entirely different principle but due to the larger size of turkey compared to chicken, may not be large enough to cook turkey.

Convection ovens are more efficient than conventional ovens because an internal fan circulates hot air all around the food. Turkey cooked in a convection oven should be more evenly cooked with maybe a 50% saving in time.

Rotisserie ovens are also more efficient than conventional ovens because the food is continually turned allowing heat to penetrate evenly.

Size and weight of the turkey

No surprises here, but the larger and heavier the turkey, the longer the time period for cooking! If the turkey is so large that it only just fits into the oven, seriously consider using a bigger oven or buying a smaller turkey. The reason for this is that to cook the turkey thoroughly, there must be a good air space all around the turkey to enable hot air to circulate. If this is not the case then it will be difficult to gauge cooking times and ensure even cooking throughout.

Fresh or frozen turkey?

Many people prefer to cook a fresh turkey as the taste is said to be superior to frozen. Fresh turkey should be purchased 1 to 2 days prior to cooking and stored in a refrigerator. When ready to cook take out of the refrigerator and allow to come up towards room temperature.

Frozen turkey is more convenient for many people however and provided the correct thawing out procedure is followed, should be safe and tasty. Care must taken to follow the suppliers thawing out instructions correctly, including that applying to stuffing. A general guide to thawing frozen turkey stored in a refrigerator is to allow 24 hours for every 4-5 pounds weight (e.g. a 14 pounds turkey would take 3 to 4 days to thaw out).

Deciding how long to cook your turkey

Professional chefs cook their turkey at an oven temperature range 325 F to 350 F (170 C to 180 C).

As a guide, if you are cooking a 12 pounds weight fresh or thawed frozen turkey without stuffing using a conventional oven operating at a temperature of 325 F, the likely cooking time would be 3 Hours. When stuffing is placed within the turkey it will take a little longer to cook through so the cooking time must be increased. Refer to a good turkey cook book for full instructions.

Testing temperature when cooking your turkey

The old school method for testing when your turkey is cooked is to use a clean metal skewer. When the approximate cooking time is up, you take the turkey out of the oven and carefully pierce the thickest part of the leg with the skewer. Remove the skewer and press against the leg to see if the juices run out clear without any trace of pink – if the juices are clear then the turkey should be cooked.

There are more accurate methods available using modern technology, more suited to the amateur or newbie chef:

  • Use a temperature probe food thermometer designed to be inserted directly into the turkey during the cooking process, as directed by manufacturers instructions. This continuously monitors the internal cooking temperature so you can be certain that the correct minimum temperature is achieved.
  • Use a thermometer (designed for the specific purpose) to register the internal temperature of your oven so as to check the accuracy of your ovens temperature controls.
  • When the turkey has cooked and has been removed from the oven, use an “instant read” probe food thermometer to check the internal temperature of various parts of the turkey e.g. legs, inner thigh, breast, internal cavity stuffing. The turkey should be allowed to rest for approximately 30 minutes after cooking and the internal temperature must be at least 165 F to ensure that the meat is cooked sufficiently well and safe to eat.

Turkey cooking tips

  1. Some professional chefs suggest pre heating your oven to a much hotter initial temperature of 425 F ( 220 C ). Place your turkey in the oven and leave for approximately 15 minutes. Then reduce the temperature down to the correct range selected e.g. 325 F for the remaining time. The idea here is to give the turkey a good blast of heat which penetrates right into the meat and any stuffing.
  2. Consider cooking stuffing outside the turkey in a casserole.
  3. To protect the turkey breast from over-cooking and drying out, consider placing stuffing under the breast skin. You should carefully peel back the skin and work your fingers and then your hand under the skin to free it from the meat. Spoon the stuffing into the cavity and then replace the skin and secure down to avoid anything leaking out.

Enjoy your turkey dinner celebration!

5 Important Tips for Piano Lessons
Must-Have information before deciding on Piano Lessons!

Music is a very important part of our lives. It does a lot more than just please our ears it is an integral part of human development.
Several years ago, there was an experiment done by scientists at the University of California at Irvine in 1993. (published in the journal Nature) They had college students listen to Mozart Sonata for two Pianos in D Major, a relaxation tape or silence. Immediately after these sessions, the students took a spatial reasoning test (the ability to put together puzzles) and the students scores improved drastically after listening to the Music. The reason is because music and spatial abilities share the same pathways in the brain.

Another experiment was done later on by researchers at Appalachian State University and the researchers were successful as well in connecting music to boosting brain power.
They gave preschool children (ages 3-4 yrs. old) training for 8 months. Children were divided into 4 groups: Keyboard lessons, Singing lessons, Computer lessons and No lessons. After 8 months of this treatment, the children were tested on their ability to put together puzzles (spatial-temporal reasoning) and to recognize shapes (spatial-recognition reasoning) and the results were astounding! They found that only those children who had taken the keyboard lessons had improvement in the spatial-temporal test. (The children did not, however show any change with the spatial-recognition.)

Another interesting observation Ive made is the connection between the Medical profession and the Music profession a large majority of M.D.s are Classically trained musicians! Ive encountered many and have asked them all the same question how do you make the connection between the medical and the musical and the response Ive had is that they are both very intricate and require a rare focus and mathematical mindset in many different directions at once. Its achieved by many years of training in either and/or both fields, which by the same token – enhance each other. So to them the similarity in brain function and focus is evident and invaluable to both the medical and the musical. It will be interesting to see the results of further study in that matter. Currently, there is no conclusive proof scientifically of the connection between Medical and Musical.

Now for the 5 Tips for Piano Lessons!

1) Interest:
Assess the interest of your child. Is this something they really like or is it your dream? The child should show genuine interest in music and a keyboard in order for their learning experience to be a pleasant and successful one. If they are not interested ask yourself why you even pursued it? Is it because you have an inner desire for it? Its NEVER too late to begin! Sign yourself up for Piano lessons if thats the case. Ive have students of every age some played when they were kids then quit. As they got older, regretted quitting and vowed to one day pick it up again. Then there are others who always had the desire but not the opportunity and now find themselves retired with plenty of time on their hands. Theyve actually become Piano virtuosos! I give you these lovely examples to give you hope and a nudge psssst! Its never too late! The student must be genuinely interested.
2) Instrument:
Its fine to begin Piano lessons on an electronic keyboard. As time goes on, the student will know in which direction theyd like to take the Piano lessons. If its just for personal enjoyment, its fine to stay with a keyboard.
If its for classical Piano training then the student should be switched over to an acoustic Piano. In my experience as a Piano teacher, Ive realized that a Spinet Piano (the ones that have a low back) unless it is given as a gift, should not be purchased. It would be preferable to purchase an Upright which is a Baby Grand Piano, but instead of the strings being vertical theyre horizontal. The reason being, that the action on the keys is much better technically for the students hand, and it sound substantially better to the ear.
3) Teacher:
Ask around and get feedback from others about their teachers. Find out the teachers background. Where did they get the education from, how long have they been teaching, where do they teach from, what are the surroundings like? Ask current students how patient the teacher is and how do they feel during the lesson. You should get a pretty good idea about the teacher by how current students are progressing. Does the teachers personality blend with your childs. Remember, this is a choice! In school the children have to adapt to the teacher that has been assigned to them, and thats a good thing. They learn to get along with different types of personalities, but Piano is an extra-curricular activity and should be a pleasant one that they look forward to.
4) Schedule:
Children can be easily overwhelmed by too much in their schedule. As adults weve experienced overload for ourselves and its SO counterproductive! Its highly advisable to limit activities in order for the kids not to be pulled in too many directions.
Once activities have been chosen, Ive found with my own kids and students that by writing down a daily schedule, everything gets done and there are no excuses for forgetting to practice.
5) Dedication:
Once a schedule is in place, practicing piano will become part of daily routine. After a while, the student wont be so worried about time, but will want to achieve goals set by the teacher. The student will need dedication in order for the craft to go from mechanical to musical. Encourage them to listen to a wide range of styles and genres in order for them to develop their own taste for music. At an early stage, dedication can be ingrained in a student by participating in Recitals, Talent Shows and Worship Services. It takes diligence and dedication also sacrifices to make piano a beautiful craft.

With the sun beating in bottom of your neck and the bases charged, the pressure on you, the first basic player, overpowers. Did we mention that you play for the commanders? Howl and grondement of crowd, dust rising upwards and scintillating in the light of the sun, gleams of the team of opposition around, – it can be a place hard to focus. And then it occurs. The beater strikes the ball, the ventilators howl, and the second base throws you suddenly fire. Before you can even think that, you react with the instinct which was formed and integrated in your spirit and your arms during years. And when you look in bottom of you made. The ball in your hand. The batter outside and the you’ve gained the play.

We use headphones all the time to listen to MP3s and DVDs, play musical instruments, and more. But how exactly do they work?

Essentially, headphones are a pair of transducers that receive electrical signals from some sort of media player or receiver. The headphones speakers convert these signals to sound waves that your ears can then hear. Based on this description, you may immediately think of how telephones and radios function. And indeed, headphones preceded both of these inventions.

There are four basic types of headphones: circumaural, supra-aural, earbuds/earphones, and canalphones. The differences between them are mostly visible they vary in size and style. A lot of people these days are concerned only on the looks and style of the heaphone…I feel thats a bad thing. You should be more concerned about the quality and durability of the headphones you are purchasing, rather than worry how you are going to look with them on your head. Would you rather have a great listening experience that will last a long time, or would you rather look better and have a bad listening experience?

However, studies have shown that using headphones at a high volume level can lead to temporary or permanent hearing damage. Companies have responded to this danger, promoting safer products. Some people believe closed-air headphones, which are sealed, are actually better for hearing than open-air headphones, which allow outside interference. This is because people are then less tempted to turn up the volume because the sound quality is so good already.

When looking for a new set of headphones, you can visit your local retailer or shop online. Wireless headphones are a popular trend and they allow users to roam about while listening to music or other audio, rather than having to sit stationary next to their MP3 player or computer. Whatever your needs or budget, youre sure to find the right headphones for you.

We are a group of people dedicated to create many successfull lives

If you are planning a skiing vacation or maybe you are already at the resort and are preparing for a day of skiing then there is a lot to think about. This is especially so if you are new to winter sports. You need to get your skis, boots and poles. You need to organize your lift pass and then you need to hook up with your ski class. Without these things your day would be unsuccessful, however there are a few other things that people often overlook that can also impact on your day. Here is a checklist of 7 things you may need on the ski slopes.

First thing to take is a trail map. No doubt you have looked at the trail maps that are dotted throughout the resort or even at your pocket version but it is essential that you take it with you when you are skiing. Despite your studies you will need to refer to it at least a few times on the first day. Maybe less as the week goes by but it is always handy to have especially if you take a turn that you are not used to.

Lip balm and sunscreen. The lips are very sensitive to the sun and wind. They are one of the few parts of your body that will be exposed to the elements. Make sure they are protected as chapped lips can spoil your vacation. Take a small tube of sunscreen and top up every few hours or so. This is mainly around the face and ears but this depends on the weather and what you are wearing. If it a pleasant day you may decide to ski in a shirt and will need to protect the shoulders and arms.

Something to clean your goggles or sunglasses. Sunglasses often come with a bag that doubles as a cleaner so this is fairly easy to cater for unless you have lost the bag a long time ago like me. If you don’t have the bag then any cloth, like a chamois, will do the trick. Obviously you need to be able to see where you are skiing so clear vision is essential. I’d suggest goggles or glasses are essential too as the glare from the snow is too much even on an overcast day. Goggles are best but sunglasses are more comfortable in my opinion (depending on the type of skiing you are doing).

Carry some water and a snack. There are many cafes and rest stops dotted around the slopes and you won’t have to look far to get a drink at the bottom of the slope but a bottle of water is handy if you need a break during a run. It also means you don’t have to stop skiing for too long. As for a snack, I like a chocolate bar and skiing is my excuse to indulge my chocoholic tendencies. Other people may take an energy bar or even a sandwich.

A cell phone is a good device to have on you if you have an accident or need to keep in touch with friends. You need to find out where to meet up for lunch at the very least ! Take your wallet with some form of id and a credit card or small amount of money. You don’t want a heavy wallet weighing you down.

After an inauspicious adolescence, Paul The Truth Darden, Jr. has come a long way. Born October 27, 1968 in New Haven, Connecticut and raised in a ghetto, in his teen years he hung out with thieves and drug dealers. In fact, at the tender age of 15, Darden was accused of murder but was lucky enough to be acquitted due to mistaken identity.

As a high school dropout, there were not many career options open to him and he says that the game of Poker helped him turn his life around. Darden states that one of his goals is to bring poker to the African American community and commented in one of his interviews There is going to be salt and pepper all over the casinos when they see me win a big event.

Paul Darden began playing and winning at the local Foxwoods Casino as well as in the Stud Games at Atlantic City where they were very popular. He tells us that his father had a small poker club many years ago and taught Paul to play.

The Demon Plague by Joreid McFate is a fantastic paranormal suspense science-fiction novel, involving time-travel and mysticism. This 424 page book is also available in e-book format.

Due to the volume of books I review, most are donated to our local library when the assignment is complete. However, this is one book that I just cannot part with. I felt this comment is important to mention, because only .04% of the books I review find their way to my personal bookshelves.

This exciting tale begins when a demon plague sweeps over mankind, wrought when some scientists developed a technology that mastered time travel. There are factions who radically search for a way towards racial and genetic purity while others strive to cure the plague and fight for basic human rights. Crystal Patience Gladstone Donovan is caught up in this war when, at her grandmothers deathbed, she is given a family heirloom and told that she is the Star and to await her Moon.

Soon she is involved in a journey into the past where she meets her ancestor Patience Gladstone Talbot, another Star. Crystal learns that her middle names are common throughout time as they are given to the gifted child who is known by a birthmark. Chase scenes, deceit, battles, flashing back and forth into the past and into the future are all stepping-stones for Crystal and her friends in their attempts to do the right thing.

This story line could be used as an excellent reminder of the dangers and grand possibilities advanced technology could reap. It was refreshing to experience realistic female hero characters in this novel. I was absolutely astounded when I read that not only is Joreid McFate actually two separate authors, but that despite many other collaborative projects they have never met and never spoken on the telephone!

Without hesitation, I recommend The Demon Plague with the highest of ratings.”
