So you have decided to throw a party. Great, now its time to consider all of the things you must do to make it a success. You need to make a guest list, plan decorations, arrange for a DJ, etc, etc. The list goes on and on but one of the most important tasks is arranging for the food. Food and drink will make or break your party. The question you must decide is are you going to hire a caterer or are you going to handle the food yourself. There are pluses and minuses to both.

Catering Yourself
If you decide to cater the party yourself, you will of course save money. Caterers can be expensive and they make up a considerable portion of a parties budget. If you are having a relatively small gathering, it is probably not worth hiring one. You might be better off just buying a few party trays from your grocery store or a favorite restaurant.
Another reason to not hire a caterer is that you will be able to serve exactly what you want, not just what the caterer has to offer. You can have the exact foods that you and your guests like in the amounts that you want.

Hiring A Caterer
Hiring a caterer does have advantages however. Sure they can cost you money but their expertise can come in handy. If you order the food yourself you might over order, wasting money. Even worse you could end up ordering too little and run out of food or drink. That would be a party nightmare, quickly putting an end to the festivities. You want to see a crowded room empty quick, just tell your guests that there is no more food or drink.

Another advantage of hiring a caterer is that it will allow you to completely enjoy your party. No running back and forth to the kitchen or checking to make sure your appetizer tray is full. You can spend your time mingling with your friends or business associates. What good is throwing a party that you cannot enjoy.

Lastly, honestly answer this question. Do you have the expertise to pull it off? Caterers have the experience necessary to make sure that your party goes off smoothly. The food will be ready on time. The drinks will flow smoothly. They have thrown hundreds or even thousands of parties and they will make yours run like clockwork.

Hopefully this article has helped you decide on the direction you want to take your party. Decide carefully, it is an important decision that could make or break your event.

Why ultralight sleeping bags? Because ultralight backpacking is only made possible by cutting the weight of the “big three;” the backpack, shelter and sleeping bag. The days of five-pound summer bags are gone – at least for those of us who prefer to go light.

One Pound Ultralight Sleeping Bags

There are several one-pound ultralight sleeping bags on the market now. My own is 17 ounces. It actually weighs 19 ounces with the stuff sack, but stuff sacks aren’t always necessary. It can be stuffed directly into my pack or put in a half-ounce bread bag. It’s a down sleeping bag, and has kept me warm down to below freezing – warmer, in fact, than my four-pound bag used to keep me.

It appears fragile, and I’ve babied it over the years, but it may be tougher than I thought. I’ve used it from sea-level to 16,000 feet, in all types of weather, usually camping under a tarp, yet it still has its loft, and it appears almost new. The zipper goes only half-way down, to save weight, and it’s a mummy bag, but I’m 6’3″, 165 pounds, and I’ve always been comfortable in it.

Sleeping bags weighing around a pound are summer bags, rated down to 40 to 50 degrees fahrenheit. A quick check of the newest bags out there, though, shows that even one or two of the 0 degree bags are under three pounds now. These are down filled bags, of course, as down is still the lightest insulation for its weight.

Another big advantage of any down sleeping bag is it’s compressibility. Nothing packs smaller than down. However, a good synthetic bag is probably better than down if you are regularly getting it wet.

Several sythetic-fill sleeping bags now come close to down in their warmth-to-weight ratio. At least one summer bag, using Polarguard fill, weighs an even 16 ounces. That’s amazingly light for a synthetic bag.

Using Ultralight Sleeping Bags

Ultralight sleeping bags generally aren’t tough. The lighter the bag, the more fragile, but treat them gently, and they work fine. I’ve used mine for many years, in snow and rain, from Ecuador to California to Michigan, and it shows little wear. Baby these things, and they can last a long time.

Freight is transporting goods by water, air or sea, and shipping is the most commonly used mode of transport for carrying freight from one place to another. The shipping industry forms 90% of world trade; nearly 50,000 ships that make up the international trading fleet are technically sophisticated. The cost of a new ship varies between US $100 million to nearly $200 million.

Freight is classified as incoming freight and outgoing freight. In most cases, in regards to incoming freight, the international goods arrive by water or air. Domestic shipments find en route either by roads or by air. In case of the outgoing freights service providers basically send the goods either by sea or by road. Only fragile and perishable items are transported by air.

Freights is often moved by ship. Most of the imports and exports of a nation are solely dependent on the shipping industry. For an economy to flourish, the shipping industry plays a vital role in not only transporting produce to international markets but also bringing raw materials back into the nation. The industry is classified as intrinsically global. The shipping industry has a unique business set-up: a ship can be owned by someone, managed by another, registered by a third country and manned by people of an entirely different nation. Because of its international characteristics, its safe operation is regulated by United Nations agencies. Officers in the ships from different nations are trained in accordance to the global standards.

It is imperative that an individual makes the effort to identify the best service provider while shipping goods from one place to another. Documents such as bill of landing, signature on the receipt document, proper addresses in the papers, and contracts should be made before getting into a deal with the company, so that the goods reach their destination intact.

Projection screens are special screens used to project an image for the audience. Movie theatres use projection screens on a wide scale. These screens are used in conferences or home theatres as well. The screens serve different purposes in different places. Therefore they are installed in various ways.

The projection screens can be wall-mounted type, pull down type or mobile type. Wall mounted types are needed for exact reproduction of the picture. Movie halls and home theatres use this type of screen. The second type, that is pull down screens do not need a fixed place, they can be used as and when required. Mobile screens are pull down screens mounted on a free stand but the projection of pictures are not perfect in these projection screens.

Projection screens are always matte white or matte grey. This helps in the perfect colour projection of the slides, otherwise, the pictures or images might get discoloured. Matte grey screens or grey screens reflect less light from the projector, they also absorb less light from the room. Image brightness ratio is correctly maintained and many call these projection screens high contrast screens.

The screens may be flat or curved, but flat screens are the preferred ones. Projection screens are used for both back and front projection. The light that is projected on the screen is diffusely reflected by the front projection screens. Back projection screens work differently. The light that is projected on them is diffusely transmitted through the screens.

Like any other consumer items projection screens can be of high quality and bad quality. It depends on how much the prospective buyer is going to pay for a screen. Obviously high quality screens will have higher price tags. It is advisable to go through the details of the product before purchasing. Many manufacturers give a detailed list of what they are offering.

Projection screens are mainly required for commercial purposes like in cinema halls or conference rooms, but individuals might buy them for their home theatre. The buyer has to decide on the screen size. Minimum and maximum viewing distance has to be taken in to account. Minimum viewing distance is the distance closest to the screen from where the viewer can see the whole picture. Maximum viewing distance is the distance furthest from the screen, from which the picture as a whole can be seen. There is a formula for calculating this, but those not strong in mathematics can depend on reliable makers who manufacture screens taking everything in to consideration.

When you think of exceptional cars that are built in Europe, does your mind run strictly to cars made by Rolls Royce, BMW, or Mercedes? Perhaps Jaguar and Lamborghini come to mind as well. Each of these makes deserve all the accolades given to them. Still, there are three makes that are, for various reasons, exceptional. Lets take a look at Volvo, Volkswagen, and Audi, the three makes featured in this article.

For a country of just nine million to produce one automaker would be amazing enough. To lay claim to two automakers is simply phenomenal. Both Volvo and Saab are from this particular country which is Sweden. Now a part of Ford Motor Company, Volvo has greatly influenced the automobile industry over the years. Safety standards that had been universally low elsewhere are much more appreciated with Volvo. Front end crumple zones, reinforced roofs and specially designed interiors have all had their origin with Volvo. Out of these high safety standards have come a line of cars that are, indeed, some of the best built and safest cars on the road. Fortunately, through Volvos leadership, many automakers around the world have incorporated Volvos high safety standard. This is what makes Volvo exceptional in my eyes.

The company that brought to the world the first peoples car, the Beetle, is also exceptional. First designed in Germany during the 1930s, the Beetle survived World War II and was one of the most mass produced and loved cars in the world. From the 1950s forward the Beetle managed to make motorized transportation available to people who otherwise could not afford a car. From college students in the US to migrant workers in Mexico and from the gritty cities of Holland to the Irish farmlands, the Beetle made owning a car affordable the majority of the masses. Even after importation to the US ceased during the 1970s, the Beetle was produced for another generation and sold in Mexico.

Without drawing out the point too far, the term that best describes Audis quattro technology is superior handling. Perhaps that is an understatement but when Audi introduced quattro all wheel drive the company threw the gauntlet down and told the rest of the auto making world that quattro was the standard by which all luxury sedans would be judged. Audi’s quattro technology has given the company such a huge advantage over competitors that over the years it has been banned from certain types of racing. Indeed, Audis quattro technology provides continuous traction long past when other road handling schematics have reached their threshold.

So, there you have it. Three truly exceptional automobiles from the European continent, exceptional in ways, perhaps, that should be labeled as extraordinary.

One of the best things about doing business online involves the fact that with a computer and Internet connection you can do just about anything you want.

One of the worst things about doing business online involves the fact that with a computer and Internet connection you can do just about anything you want.

In a business context, computers and Internet access represent the ultimate double-edged sword that requires discipline and self-control when it comes to the endless possibilities of how to spend your time.

Now, for all of us who fall into the category of needing a tad more will-power to stay on task, help arrives in the form of a free software app for PC called “Temptation Blocker.”

Originally developed to help the software’s author avoid playing “Half Life 2″ (a great game, by the way) while under pressure to meet a critical deadline for his work, “Temptation Blocker” operates with a very simple purpose.

He knew that if he could just let the sane part of himself set limits, he would head off the game playing in moments of weakness later on during the day.

Now, for the rest of us who need a little help avoiding temptation throughout the day, we can use this same program in a variety of ways.

The software comes free of charge for PC users (sorry, no MAC version at this time) by logging on to http://thenetreporter.com/temptation-blocker.html

Download the software and follow the simple installation steps and then restart your computer.

Once the software installs, you start it up and see a list of the programs in your computer’s Start Menu.

You can check off the ones you want to block, tell it how long to block them, and then get to work.

If you ever give in to temptation and try to start the blocked programs, a dialogue box pops up telling you how much longer until the programs are available again.

If the program you wish to block doesn’t show up in the list, you can browse for it and add it to the program list.

If it lists programs you know you’ll never want to block, you can right mouse click them and remove them individually from the list.

You can then create profiles to block specific programs based on the job you need to get done.

* The Email Addict *

I admit it: I’m addicted to email.

I’ve developed a compulsion to click the “Send/Receive” button on my Mail Washer software at least every 5-10 minutes throughout the day.

Not only does it distract me to run down at least a half- dozen rabbit-holes daily, but it also adds greatly to my overall stress level.

By blocking access to my email program, I’m actually weaning myself out of the habit of constantly checking email every few minutes and reclaiming valuable time.

* Get Work Done! *

No matter what deadline you face, by blocking those programs which tempt you to sidetrack and waste time, you’ll actually get more time to enjoy them!

Instead of fragmenting your time into inefficient bits, you can concentrate on one task at a time, get it completed, and then do whatever you want with the extra free time – and do it with a guilt-free conscience.

Dontrelle Willis is quite a professional baseball player; he has participated in the World Series, pitched in an All-Star Game and nearly won a Cy Young Award in his brief but brilliant career. But, he has still never played for his country, but that comes to an end when the Marlins pitcher will play with Team USA take the field against Mexico in a first-round game of the inaugural World Baseball Classic in Phoenix.

Playing for your country means a lot more than just playing. You have to play hard; you have to make the people feel proud that is why patriotism takes up on this World Baseball Classic event. Miguel Cabrera is another example of an MLB player who will be experiencing some of these feelings playing for his country, Venezuela, in its WBC debut this afternoon wondering what it would be to lead his home.

For all that patriotism, though, Cuba is one of the teams that is compromised to make a good show. Their history of three-time Olympic championships and 25-time World Cup wins clearly makes them the best amateur team, but they have never played a team of top professionals aside from a pair of exhibitions against the Baltimore Orioles seven years ago.

Every kid that loves baseball has fantasized about being a great pro pitcher and throwing a perfect game. Its one of those universal American dreams of little boys everywhere. While dreams like these should never be quashed, its important for responsible adults to teach kids how to pitch a baseball with the correct form and control. Without such guidance, overly enthusiastic children run a real risk of doing damage to their arms, elbows, and shoulder joints when throwing baseballs.

The first thing ever kid needs to learn before he takes the mound to pitch in a baseball game is the correct form. Not only will this give his pitches more power and control, it will also put less strain on the important and vulnerable parts of the body. There are two big keys for baseball pitchers. First, it must be taught to youngsters that effective and safe pitching is powered mainly by the legs, not the arm.

A good training tip is to have players watch several pro baseball games, paying close attention to the form of the pitchers as they wind up and throw. Have them note how the legs are what propel them, and that the arm is really just a means of directing the ball. Kids arent analyzers, and most of them will attempt to pitch a baseball using all arm strength. This is sure path to injury!

The other crucially important aspect of pitching a baseball that must be taught early is the role of the elbow. The natural tendency, especially in kids, is to simply try to throw the baseball as hard as they can each and every time. Again, this invites injury and can actually rob them of speed on every pitch.

The proper form is to train the elbow to lead the hand. The elbow should stay ahead of hand until just before release of the baseball. This takes some practice, but once a child learns to do it without forcing it, he s on the path to better control, more power, and (most importantly) a safe baseball throwing motion.

Caution: in conjunction with this move, baseball pitchers must learn to keep their throwing arms shoulder in close to their body. One of the biggest hazards is letting the shoulder jut forward or to the side early in the pitching motion. The elbow moving ahead will put strain on the shoulder joint if it isnt kept close in. Again, this takes repeated practice, especially for kids for whom baseball pitching is new and whose bodies are not yet under their full control.

A good idea is to impress upon the young pitcher that speed isnt the top priority in good baseball pitching, control is. This serves two purposes. First, it will help you slow him down in order to ingrain the proper and safe movements outlined above. Second, its generally easier to build up speed after control is learned when throwing a baseball than it is to learn control after speed.

If you want to send flowers, online roses may be just the ticket. Many major florists offer the convenience of ordering online roses directly from their website and having them delivered anywhere, which is especially convenient if you need delivery in another state or even time zone.

When you order online roses, you will have the opportunity to view different gift and/or arrangement options, select a delivery time and date, add text to the gift card and much more. In addition, ordering online roses will offer the shopper an opportunity to receive instant confirmation of their order and even print a receipt if needed.

When you order online roses, the parent company will process the order and contact one of their florists in the local delivery area. At that time, the customer service representative will relay your order to a florist who will then send the roses out for delivery.

There are many reasons that someone may order online roses, including a long distance relationship that needs rekindling or a congratulatory message from across the miles. Anytime is the perfect time for roses to show up unexpectedly and ordering online roses is the best way to make that happen if you live miles away from the recipient.

Online roses are just the same as any that would be found locally in a floral shop, including red, white, pink, yellow, etc. A rose arrangement is commonly delivered with babys breath and may be delivered in a white box with red ribbon or in a clear vase with a decorative red bow.

If you decide to order online roses, make sure that you purchase from a reputable company that is well known. This is especially important if you are providing your personal financial information. The best way to learn about a companys reputation is to check their record with the Better Business Bureaus website, which allows visitors to search by company name, telephone number or even website address.

Once your order for online roses is placed, make a followup call to ensure that your order was received and will be delivered according to your instruction. It is important to provide a physical address for delivery and not a post office address. In some instances, directions may be needed. If you do not have the exact directions because the recipient lives in another state, the florist can call to confirm their location. In order for this to be effective, however, you will need to provide a telephone number of the recipient if directions are needed.

Build a gauge to cut the slit of handle the next stage is to cut a slit in the base for the handle. For this, the need for youll to build another gauge. The cone on the bottom of the base is pretty of almost 28. Our gauge will have a slope 28 and will be enough with far from adapting to the base of a router. It must also draw aside the legs the candlestick (20). My turn has a rail of tube, thus this gauge is designed to adapt above the rail and the index to a bed plate which is maintained with the table on which my turn is assembled (21). The various turns will require a different design for this gauge, but the common elements are that the top of the gauge must incline 28 and the slit in the top of the gauge must be in the exact center and must be classified to adapt to a casing of guide on the bed plate of router (22). This gauge is made of plywood, and, and MDF for the top.

The world you create around you is a direct reflection of the value that you place on yourself.

Before you can have a different life; before you can be happier, wiser, be more at peace and in quiet command of yourself, you must first BE different.

Being is everything.

Everything on earth and beyond – animated or not – all forms are an expression of one great Intelligence, Creative Energy or Being. Even rock and plants have being-ness, a consciousness. All things created are unique expressions of this One Creator Being.

The being-ness or consciousness of everything that is created, expresses aspects of the Creator through its very nature. And that consciousness is not fixed. It can be transformed. Each of us is created with the power to evolve our consciousness through the exercise of free choice.

Your consciousness is in a continuous process of unfolding. It is intrinsic to everything in the Universe to evolve spontaneously in response to prevailing conditions. So you are creating your life at every given moment, whether you are aware of it or not. Just how the rest of your life unfolds, is something you can influence through your awareness and the choices you make.

The very first thing to recognize in order to transform your life is the eternal value of your nature. You are not a simply a blob of bio-plasma: you are an expression of Divinity and within your very being the spark of that awareness always remains present.

When you find yourself disappointed, beaten down and overwhelmed by the forces of life, it is because you have momentarily forgotten the true origin of your Source and the magnificence of your destiny! Your intrinsic value is Divine and can never be destroyed!

This point was illustrated beautifully by a well-known speaker who started off his seminar by holding up a $20 bill. In the packed hall, he asked, “Who would like this $20?”

Hands started going up. He said, “I am going to give this bill to one of you, but first let me do this.”

He proceeded to crumple the note. He then asked, “Who still wants it?” Still the hands were up in the air.

“Well,” he replied, “What if I do this?” And he dropped the bill to the stage and ground it into the floor with his shoe. Then he picked it up again, all crumpled and dirty. “Now who still wants it?” Still the hands went into the air.

His demonstration drove home a very valuable lesson. No matter what he did to the money, the audience still wanted it because it did not decrease in intrinsic value. It was still worth $20.

Many times in our lives, we are dropped, crumpled, and ground into the dirt by the decisions we made and the circumstances that came our way. We may have felt damaged or worthless. But no matter what happens to you in life, you can never lose your intrinsic value!

You are an aspect of the Divine Creator embodied in a physical body, and therein is your value. Don’t ever forget it! Never let yesterday’s disappointments overshadow tomorrow’s dreams.

The second principle to transforming your life, is to become aware of that secret place within yourself where the Divine Presence dwells. You must consciously enter that place of power within where your conscious awareness interacts with the Divine Presence. That is your place of power, the place from where your reality is created moment by moment. It contains the awareness of All That Is in this present moment. It is where your inner guidance dwells, in the Eternal Now.

It’s only what you do right at this moment, right now, that carries the seed of personal change. And in the endless beauty and mystery of the Eternal Now, this seed of change is held in your Higher consciousness as your on-going reality.

If you choose something in the Eternal Now, you won’t have to worry about what may await in the future: your conscious choice to live in the present moment automatically eliminates the need to strive toward some future goal. Why? Because everything you choose in the Eternal Now, remains there for you to experience whenever you are in the present moment and this is the only time it really matters!

Being in the present moment is critical to manifestation. If you are locked into regrets over the past or living in anxiety over the future, you will have no place to ground that which you create within. Creation becomes possible when your consciousness is present in the eternal “Now” of Divine potential, and you align yourself to the unfolding of your highest potential in that space.

The third principle of transforming your life is to consider all your creations with gratitude. Are you grateful for the life you have created so far, or can you only see what is lacking in it?

Gratitude and appreciation connect us to the Divine Source of All. Just as the Creator pronounced each days creation as good before moving on to the next day, we need to take time to reflect over what we have created in our lives.

Why did we choose to draw specific circumstances into our lives? What do they bring to teach us? Perhaps the breakup of the relationship that we bewail as terrible, offers us the opportunity for further growth and maturing. And could it be that we created limited finances to experience the sufficiency of the Eternal Now? When viewed from a higher perspective, everything we create in our lives serves a purpose in the development of our souls.

To summarize, the process of transformation starts with the recognition of your True Nature, is activated by connecting to that Source inside your being, and is nurtured by offering gratitude and appreciation for everything you have created. Once you understand these principles, you are well on your way to transforming your life from within. Here are some additional guidelines to assist you:

STEP OFF THE TREADMILL. Dare to slow down. Even at a million miles an hour, anxious thoughts and feelings still take you nowhere. Instead, take time to be still and to reflect. If you want to find the timeless, dare to live as though you have all the time in the world. Step out of the rush and into the Eternal Now.

TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR YOUR EXPERIENCE. The way you feel toward the life experiences you encounter is a direct expression of who you are and what you value. If you dont like what you are encountering, choose again from the core of your values and the awareness of your truest being, and you will find yourself drawing different outcomes.

REFUSE TO COMPROMISE. Let go of any thought or action that creates conflict in the present moment for the promise of a better feeling to come. Reality is Now. There is no later! You can’t find contentment by being divided. Instead of compromising yourself, choose to be whole in the Now.

REMEMBER YOUR CONNECTION TO OTHERS. Even when it feels like you’re the only one in the world who struggles with the human condition, you are not! Reach out to others and learn from their experiences, draw on their support and offer them encouragement. Were all in this together!

BECOME THE BEST YOU CAN. Anybody can follow the crowd, which usually operates on the lowest common denominator. Make the commitment to yourself to live a life worthy of all the potential that is within you. Dig deep to discover your greatness. Give yourself permission to shine!

LET GO OF BLAME. When your feet hurt because your shoes are too tight, you don’t complain that someone else made you put them on. So why blame another when it’s your feelings that are hurting you? If painful emotions hurt you, then let them go! You’ll feel lots better.

KEEP IT LIGHT. When the heart and the mind are not in agreement, we can get pulled down into the dense emotions of fear, anxiety or worry. Remember that your true nature is Divine, and that there is nothing Divine to be found by indulging in dense thoughts or emotions. Instead, allow yourself to skip along the hallways of Life with a song in your heart, and the appropriate doors will open up!

You clean your car, your dishes, and even your floor. More than likely, you have also been properly schooled in the daily grooming needs of cleansing the body of dirt, germs, and bacteria. However, have you ever stopped to think of the importance of internal cleansing? The body is a delicate and intricate system that is made of many different parts. Due to the effects of germs, bacteria, viruses, pollution, and chemicals found in food, drinks, and the environment, it is very beneficial to cleanse the body (and its various systems) by using an internal whole body Isagenix cleansing system.

There are various reasons why people choose a Isagenics whole body cleansing, and most of those reasons pertain to the specific system that they feel needs a thorough cleaning. Some of the major systems and organs that benefit from a whole body cleansing routine include:

1 The Digestive System
2 The Circulatory System
3 The Lymphatic System
4 The Liver
5 The Colon
6 The Bladder
7 The Intestines
8 The Blood Stream

The body functions best when the entire system is thoroughly cleansed and rid of parasites, bacteria, stale waste matter, and other impurities. There are many products available that will enable you to enjoy the benefits of whole body cleansing. One of the most effective ways to cleanse the internal systems is through a two-week enzymatic cleansing therapeutic program.

The key to whole Isogenix body cleansing is to thoroughly clean and remove toxins from the colon. The digestive tract will often times retain harmful chemicals, parasites, and other toxic matter. The successful cleanse will remove these toxins and leave the body, as well as the colon and digestive tract, free from foreign matter, toxic chemicals, and parasites. Many people today are currently experiencing the effects of a toxic colon. Irritable bowel syndrome, lack of energy, sluggishness, bloating, and gas are just a few of the early warning signs that the body may be in desperate need of whole body cleansing. If the body is left in this volatile state, these conditions may persist until serious disease results.

Another condition that may plague the human body is an overgrowth of Candida (or yeast). Cleansing the body from a yeast overgrowth can offer many wonderful benefits. Yeast is a natural part of the human body, but when it becomes out of balance, it can lead to many serious discomforts, ailments, and illnesses. Whole body cleansing is often recommended as a therapy to remove the unfriendly yeast and is one of the best ways to treat Candida and restore the bodys natural balance.

Most whole body cleanses are made from natural herbal remedies. Using various extracts in different combinations provides the best results for internal whole body cleansing, as opposed to using pharmaceutical medications to treat conditions. Many people also discover that an internal cleanse will successfully treat conditions that over the counter medicines and pharmaceuticals have been unsuccessful in alleviating. You will also discover that after engaging in a thorough whole Isogenics body cleansing, your bodys own internal cleansing systems will be accelerated. Theres no doubt about it, cleansing the internal body offers many benefits and improves health and vitality.

One of the best ways an entrepreneur can find the investment money he or she needs to grow their business is by finding a strategic or joint venture partner. In a good partnership, each partner will bring expertise or assets that the other party is missing, but that are necessary for the business to be successful; for instance: CASH!

If done correctly, a partnership can be great a way to grow your company without implementing difficult and time-consuming changes to your business. A partnership can help you increase your market share, gain a new competitive advantage, and help you to respond and adapt more quickly to change in the marketplace.

But, business partnerships can be tough, and getting out of a bad one can be worse than an ugly divorce.

In my practice, entrepreneurs often come to me when its too late. In a typical scenario, communications have broken down between the partners, they have been kicked out of their business, money has been stolen, and everyone is about to sue everyone else.

Let me put this into tangible terms for you. What I have found is that when I help my clients outline their relationship with their partners in writing before they get started, it will cost them between $1,500 and $7,500 for a simple partnership. When clients do not do this up-front work and hire my firm to sue their partner (or defend a lawsuit) when things go bad, it can cost up to 10 TIMES that amount in litigation!

What I have found is that when future business partners hash out the terms of their relationship before they get started, they have longer and more successful partnerships, and they save a considerable amount of money on legal fees. To help future business partners get the conversation started, I have created a Business Partners Questionnaire that helps future partners begin to outline their relationship in writing. To get your FREE copy, email me at sfurnari@furnarilevine.com.

Here are a few other suggestions to help keep you and your partners out of court!

1. Go Back to the Basics

Before you even start hunting for a potential partner or decide that a partnership is definitely the way to go, take a look at your business plan. Decide whether such a move is in line with you business goals. What are your organizational goals? Would a partnership help you achieve these goals? Is it consistent with the objectives of your company? A partnership is not a magic bandage that will solve your companys problems. If you feel that your decision to partner is a defensive move, it maybe an indication of a core problem that should be fixed within your company, not externally. Similarly, dont rush into partnership because you rely on one to start your business.

2. The Deadly Es: Ego & Emotion

The deadly Es can trap you in a potentially awkward situation with your partner. Surrounded by a myriad of official documents and important decisions to be made, your ego can cause you to make claims and opinions that can come back to bite you later on. For example, by distinguishing yourself as the companys official decision maker, you become responsible for your partners decisions too. Just as dangerous are your emotions, which can lead you to form unrealistic expectations or impromptu promises or commitments.

3. Dont Ignore Possible Opportunities/Stay Flexible

Cash-strapped entrepreneurs have a tendency to stop their search for a partner once they find the first person who demonstrates an ability to write a check. Remain uncommitted until you sign an agreement with your potential partner. Actively cultivating your alternatives can give you a better perspective on the partnership process and allow you to ask yourself, is this partnership truly the best option? Keeping your options open can help you compare the relative advantages and disadvantages of each alternative, including that of a partnership. Not only does this prevent you from devoting excess time, money and effort on the sub-prime partner candidate, but you get the assurance that whatever decision you made was the best one.

Also, consider possible opportunity costs. Along with the benefits of a partnership, you also assume liabilities, like your partners competitors. Will this fact conflict with potential opportunities in the future?

4. Form an Exit Strategy Before You Get Started

Be realistic. Conflict is inevitable and you never know how severe it may get. Although it seems cynical, you should think of how youll exit from the partnershipbefore you get started. Consider it staying prepared for your next opportunity. While you and your partners are still on good terms, its crucial to determine how to allocate your business assets in case you and your partner decide not to work together anymore. You should also agree about what to do with the business or assets in case of an untimely termination, such as a partners death. Having an exit strategy will help you maintain your autonomy your fate and that of your business remains in your hands, not your partners.

5. Map Out Your Mutual Expectations In Writing

Before you get started, and possibly before you meet with your lawyer, prepare a plain English roadmap of the relationship between you and your partner. Some major advantages are: it allows you to draft the partnership agreement with your lawyer before presenting it to your partners lawyer; its flexible structure enables you to experiment with different relationship configurations to see which one youre most satisfied with; youll have a clearer idea of what you want from the partnership; and most importantly, you can clearly distinguish business issues from legal issues, and use lawyers only to discuss the latter which will save you money on legal fees.

This brings us to the next point.

6. Get Legal Advice Early

Get legal advice from the beginning. Let your lawyer know what your goals are and he or she will let you know what you need to do to get there. A lawyer can also assess how realistic or beneficial your aspirations are. They can help you strategize your negotiations and plan what to ask for and when. Also note that the attorney representing the other side is the one you should look out for. You and your future partner should discuss the business side of your relationship first and, if possible, only introduce lawyers later.

7. Dont Do Everything Yourself

A good leader knows when to delegate responsibilities. Dont try to do everything yourself. Assuming youve already taken the steps to carefully choose reliable consultants and employees, communicate with those working for you. Lawyers, accountants and managers can provide an objective, specialized perspective and a more realistic tone to what might be an overly optimistic plan. Having technical and expert advisers on hand can also help you understand financial and operational implications pertinent to both parties.

8. Haste Makes (Costly) Waste

Its true, time is money. But ignoring details and attempting shortcuts will likely cause delays or worse, bad decisions when forming a partnership. Remember, if your partnership blows up, it will cost you far more time, money and heartache than if you do things right from the beginning.

9. Dont Overlook Details

As an entrepreneur, you already have a knack for seeing the big picture. Its the details, however, that will add value to your vision in the long run. Covering the following bases will help buffer you against uncontrollable changes in the market, operating costs, and even sentiments between you and your partner. Before you get started: establish the objectives and expectations of each partner; determine each partners contribution in terms of funds, skill and time; assess how much revenue will be allocated relative to the amount and type of work done; assign the roles and related tasks of each partner; for example, decide who will manage the partnership, who will get training and hire employees, etc.; form evaluation objectives and plan ways to monitor and assess performance; and determine a procedure to resolve problems when things break down; for example, mediation or arbitration.

10. Trust Your Gut

My present partner excluded, I have been guilty of some bad decisions about business partners. I was involved in a partnership where I owned and managed an investment property in a ski resort with two other people. My partners were social acquaintances whose company I enjoyed very much in that type of setting. However, throw money, emotions, power, and economic risk in the mix, and things quickly got tense.

The first indication that the business partnership might not be a good one was in the very beginning. We were sitting in a quaint Vermont restaurant and one of the partners threw a temper tantrum about making an offer on a property we were considering. What was a very logical and arithmetic decision for me, was a very emotional one for this person. After the outburst, I had a bad feeling about the interpersonal dynamics of the partnership. I decided to go ahead anyway because the economic prospects were outstanding.

Sure enough, in less than a year we were not on speaking terms. Luckily, before we got started, I insisted on an iron-clad partnership agreement that had a mechanism in it for me to get out. I ended up making money on the investment, but not enough to pay for a years worth of arguments, stress and distraction from my law practice. I didnt trust my gut and it cost me in the long-run.

A business partnership is truly a marriage. As all marriages go, when things are good, theyre great, and when theyre not, look out! If you get a bad feeling about your future partner, trust you instincts, they are usually correct.

When I was a nineteen-year-old high school student and budding poet two years after my diving accident many factors adversely affected my creativity. My trips in a special bus to school and back home, my courses, and my assignments, though I was spared a lot of writing and was mostly tested orally, all this was time-consuming. More often than not, my obligation to study took priority over my desire to compose poetry.

To tell the truth, I had plenty of free time. That I spent much of it uncreatively showed evidence of frivolousness, laziness, and cowardliness. I usually preferred to take my mind off things, or to daydream, rather than to express myself through poems. The satisfaction I could derive from achieving this expression seldom induced me to try. The deterring elements were the difficulty of trying and the uncertainty surrounding the outcome of my efforts.

A poem assuming one is concerned about writing beautifully is indeed no cinch. It requires a poet who is talented, skilled, and determined. My poetic ability was fickle; my grammar and style were faulty; my will was faint. I lacked the courage of my creative desire. This lack was not absolute. Now and then, when I felt compellingly inspired, I resisted my temptation to trifle which amounted to taking the easy way out and endeavored to compose a poem. I had to repeat this endeavor, over and over, to grow more capable and confident, less discouraged by the challenge at hand.

I am afraid young individuals similar to the young man I was then are not a rarity. The prospect of success turns them on; effort and the risk of failure turn them off. The contradiction is apparent, and the result predictable: Since effort and the risk of failure are essential for success, the avoidance of them precludes this success. Of course everyone knows this. The trouble is that many refuse largely to accept it. This is proof that knowledge is powerless in itself; it needs a strong will to be effective.

Young individuals, who know the rules of success, can be failures inasmuch as they fail to accept these rules. Wisdom includes this acceptance (the exclusion of which is thus foolish). It must be distinguished from knowledge. Wise people are also brave people who put their knowledge into practice and become successful for that reason. The obvious holds good in every way: Life without courage is like a bird without wings; it cannot take off.

Why is it hard to want both the end and the means? Precisely because the means are hard, not to mention the fact that they are hazardous, you might answer. If you are right, then why do some actually thrive on this hardness and hazardousness? The key to this mystery is their attitude: They regard these opposing elements not only as obstacles but also as opportunities for merit and excitement. Just as they were young once, spoon-fed and sheltered from the evils of the world, they eventually outgrew their attachment to easiness and developed a taste for challenge. In conclusion, what characterizes them is their maturity, by contrast with the infantilism of others.

Between these two extremes there is a mediocre compromise, partly mature, partly infantile. It consists in taking charge of ones life while taking the easy way out. Small principles, small realizations, far below ones potential for greatness, they are poor excuses for wisdom and success. Potential, that is the operative word. There can be greatness in apparent smallness and smallness in apparent greatness; the truth resides in the great or small actualization of ones potential, whatever it is.

How does one discover what it is? By making the effort to actualize it in the ever-renewed and multifaceted act of living. This entails that one push oneself hard, at the risk of going too far. Measure is an empty abstraction for anyone who has never exceeded it. Limits should be experienced, not invented. This experience demands a serious and courageous commitment to greatness. Steer clear of frivolousness, laziness, and cowardliness; do not fall prey to them as I did so many times. They are strong temptations that can assume the form of a cunning philosophy that is unique to losers. Beware of this snare. Life is a demanding character test; come death, you will have ample time to rest!

Nostalgic for the old days at the rehabilitation facility when I wrote anyhow about anything, I once conveniently believed in spontaneous writing as a guarantee of genuineness. Fortunately I was foolish yet not a complete fool. After some denial, which involved some nonsense in justification of my foolishness, I admitted sullenly that my sacrosanct pursuit of genuineness was in fact a vile indulgence in idiocy. There is nothing spontaneous about the intelligent conception and intelligible expression of ones true self, which is everything but simple. It is a tissue of desires, feelings, ideas, and memories, caught in a whirl of interactions between the mind and the world. Either one goes to great lengths to elucidate and formulate the truth about oneself, and one hits the bulls-eye, or one talks bullshit please forgive my language.

Some people shine at off-the-cuff speeches, as though they were so brilliant they could avoid saying idiocies when forced to be spontaneous. Make no mistake; their brilliance is merely one side of the equation. They have spent years polishing their manner of thinking and speaking, while their knowledge waxed through learning. Their spontaneity is studied. It is a product of numerous rehearsals, like the performance of an actor. Nothing great ever comes easily to anyone, including those who are the most gifted among us. Superior luck is not human greatness, only a steppingstone toward it. The stone is given; the stepping is done by the sweat of ones brow and is made of a million steps, uphill. To work ones way up to greatness is comparable to conquering Mount Everest, the highest peak of the Himalayas. It is an outstanding achievement with a sense of pride to match.

iPods have cornered the market in terms of trendy mp3 players and the latest, third generation, versions offer photograph and video options too. Then there is the ‘iPod nano’ and the ‘iPod mini’ and the ‘iPod shuffle’ too! These gadgets have remained popular for some time now and alongside the sale of iPods an industry has grown in accessories.

The biggest advantage of an iPod is its size and therefore the ability to take it with you wherever you go. However, this can cause problems as they are also quite delicate and the screen and case are prone to scratching, even during normal usage.
Therefore there is a whole market out there offering cases to protect your iPod from damage and to make it possible for you to take it literally anywhere. Most cases now come with a variety of options for straps and clips to make sure your iPod never leaves your side until you are ready to put it away.

Socks

Yes, I do mean socks – literally a sock fabric cover made to fit the different shapes and sizes of iPods. This makes a great iPod case They can be made of a cotton or wool knitted fabric. Apple does sell their own, in packs of six different colours, but there are other manufacturers too offering different styles. Nevertheless, the cheapest I have found was free – we took a pair of men’s sports socks, cut off the foot and sewed up the end where the foot would have been! It was perfect and we got two iPod cases for virtually nothing!

Skins and Fabric

I’m not sure whether the fabric cases here shouldn’t come under the ‘socks’ label, but having looked at various websites, there are some really wacky cases for iPods available, at a cost. The options should suit all tastes from pink and fluffy to textured and to practical plain “Hotromz” make the cases to fit all types of iPod available. More expensive than a sock but they do make an individual statement about the owner!

If standing out from the crowd is not your style, there are other fabric options available, such as tweed covered wallets that the iPod just slides into. However, if you wish to change anything, or look at the screen, you need to take the player out of the iPod case.

Between fabric and ‘skins’ there is the ‘Moshi’ pouch. This is made from a special fabric, ‘Terahedron’. The inside has microscopic filaments which helps clean your iPod by removing smears and fingerprints from the casing and the outside is water and dirt resistant. There is also an outer pocket for storing earphones. This iPod case is proving very popular and is not prohibitively expensive.

Skins are made from silicone rubber or orca-skin neoprene. The silicone variety provides a translucent skin so that you can still see the iPod inside. They have clear screen protectors too, so there is no need to remove the player from the iPod case to use it. Neoprene covers are best for those people who like to take their iPods when they are taking part in outdoor activities. Tough and strong, they are made to protect the iPod regardless of where you are. They still offer a clear view of the screen, but the cases often have shaped grips on the sides for easy handling. Some have a lid to protect the front and a pocket to store earphones.

Leather

Leather cases for iPods are the most expensive option there is, but not always the most practical, leather iPod cases offer a very smart alternative to the brightly coloured neoprene or silicone skin, or the fabric versions. Some manufacturers offer the opportunity for you to have your initials printed on the iPod case, just to make sure no-one mistakes whose case it is. Leather iPod cases come in several different styles, such as one that looks like a notebook with a front flap, or there is one that has a flap that fixes over the top, like a purse. The ultimate and possibly the most expensive iPod case available is one made from ostrich leather!

Armbands and Sports Cases

The ultimate in portable cases for iPods with elasticised straps that have neoprene cases attached, ready for you to strap on your upper arm. This turns your iPod into the ideal partner to take to the gym where you can exercise whilst listening to your favourite music or other download.

If you are not too keen on wearing it on your upper arm, a new variation is a case that slips on to your hand, which is easy to access if you wish to change whatever you are listening to. This style is most suited for those who want to exercise outdoors such as joggers or walkers.

One morning, one of my favorite students asked me an interesting question. She asked me how do you create a perfect dog in a world where everyone is short on time, will, skill and money?? When I asked her to describe the perfect dog, she told me that she wants a dog that will never sniff on a walk, will never jump on people, never steal food, never pull on a walk, never be bad.

Smiling, I remarked those are a lot of “nevers” for a dog to master. Honestly, most people aren’t that well-mannered. The quest for perfection can be hard on dogs and people, alike. I added that perhaps the dog in his natural state of imperfection is good enough, and that the dog is fine just as he is. So, instead of striving for perfection, why not strive for Doggie Wabi Sabi, a state of appreciation for the dog’s appropriate imperfection?

Doggie Wabi Sabi is a philosophy of living with your dogs that takes into account their natural doggy imperfection. Dogs are creatures of rustic simplicity, endowed with understated elegance, bursting with quirks and endearing oddities that add to their uniqueness and instinctive appeal.

Enmeshed with this natural elegance is a genetic drive that makes a dog unique, the desire for emotional, energetic congruence with a matching energy source. If this wish for intimacy (joining up with the Alpha) is not fulfilled, even on occasion, then the dog turns inward, onto and into himself and in the end becomes something dark and dangerous.

So, what are the benefits of embracing Doggie Wabi Sabi? The first benefit is balance. Physical balance, emotional balance and mental balance. A balanced dog is unconsciously perfect everywhere, all the time, with everyone, due to emotional surrender to the leader. To the untrained eye, it seems as if the dog’s perfection is a result of a happy accident.

The second is fluidity. Living with a dog in the way of Doggie Wabi Sabi is living with the dog that is perfect according to the circumstances and in the context of other people, places and things; the appropriate irreducible minimum of suitable behavior. You don’t have to practice with this dog, you don’t have to go to classes, you just have to live as you wish with the dog all the time.

The third is facility. There are two guiding principles at work when using Doggie Wabi Sabi; resonance and magnetism. The principles of resonance dictate that like attracts like; and with magnetism, like repels like. I prefer that all teaching of the dog should be done according to the principles of resonance; the attraction of like to like. Resonance, or as I like to call it, FarFenflugle, as it is easily used in the real world and in real time. This technique energizes the dog’s first compelling genetic need; harmonize energetically, emotionally, with the leader.

We are so lucky that dogs are “all for one” creatures, and that for them belonging to the collective is more important than belonging to oneself. Personal liberty for man is a great gift, it is a slow death for a dog.

I have found that the American ideal of a perfect dog is an ideal of robotized mechanical perfection, a dog that does nothing at all, and most importantly, never does anything that a normal dog might do. Artificially induced non-action, is a burden, an affliction and an unfair punishment. This mindless, soulless, robot-like obedience has no relation to creating a dog that fits in with a modern urban lifestyle.

Traditional dog obedience training can be artificial; a time consuming affliction, in many cases a burden to dog and owner alike. Traditional dog obedience training, in most cases does not create dogs that are safer, friendlier and an asset to the community because generally the training environment seeks perfection; the perfect sit, the perfect stay, the perfect heel. The focus is on very specific, very artificial external skills, not emotional, mental,or energetic resonance with you and your life.

If the natural internal drives and instincts of the dog are not groomed appropriately, obedience training has a minimal impact on reducing the inappropriate behaviors of a dog. If the dog does not believe with every cell of his body that you are his Alpha, then in his mind, he always has the right to say, “No”. This is the dog that is rebellious, aggressive, independent and out of control; he jumps, he barks, he bites. This is the dog that you see on any city street pulling the arm of his owner out of the socket, and if you are able, you cross the street to avoid. This is a dog that has gone over to what I call the Doggie Dark Side.

With Doggie Wabi Sabi, you gather the natural inclinations of the dog and mold them, coax them, guide them into a masterpiece of a dog that is appropriate in the imperfect now. If he is hyper, you make him less so; if he is sedate, you make him more so according to the moment; always seeking energetic resonance.

If you want a dog that is appropriately pleasant while accompanying you through your life, you have to do more than just contain the body or constrict the mind of the dog. Instead, I would encourage you to enhance you dog’s natural elegant essence, and turn that to your benefit. The daily walk with the dog is the best way to ignite the dog’s natural, genetic compulsion to hook-up with a leader, to pack up.

WALK THE DOG…IT’S GOOD DOGGIE WABI SABI

If you want a good dog, walk your dog.

If you want a friendly dog, walk your dog.

If you want a protective dog, walk your dog.

If you want a healthy dog, walk your dog.

If you want a calm, cooperative, submissive dog, walk your dog.

If you want to learn to love your city; walk your dog.

If you want to live longer; walk your dog.

If you want to be happier; walk your dog.

If you want to reduce litter in your neighborhood; walk your dog.

If you want to reduce crime; walk your dog.

If you want your dog to love you, walk your dog.

If you want to reconnect with nature; walk your dog.

If you want Doggie Wabi Sabi Now; walk your dog!

A dog cultivated with the principles of Doggie Wabi Sabi, may not know or even need to know sit or down or stay or heel. In fact while the training may be incomplete at best, but by using resonance, the attraction of one energy to another, the dog is always perfect, moment to moment.

ALL ABOUT AMI Her first and true love is canine behavior modification and problem solving. Ami Moore has pioneered the use of electric dog training equipment as positive reinforcement, and combined this groundbreaking innovation with the dog’s natural drive to follow a strong leader.

From my point of view, a proper and balanced dog-human relationship is something that every person who has dogs in their life should experience, just as everyone should experience falling in love.

Student’s ask me why I train my dogs, I tell them that “From my point of view, I train because I am very, very lazy and I want to to where I want, when I want; and I want to take my dogs with me when I go.” And then, I always add, ” Training dogs, my personal dogs, equals freedom for for them. I want my dogs to have a beautiful life from a dog’s point of view. For a dog that means he has someone to follow and somewhere to go. I want my dogs to be “lucky dogs” not liabilities. http://www.dogdoright.com/

The Challenge for Breweries in Todays Regulated Marketplace is immense. For the past decade the advertising of alcoholic products has been increasingly subject to both government regulation and self-regulatory bodies. In Canada, the CRTCs August 1996 Code for Broadcast Advertising of Alcoholic Beverages severely restricted the way in which alcohol products are presented on both radio and television. It is not an exaggeration to say that any advertisement adhering to these regulations would be dull indeed, and almost obscure any attempt at promotion – you cant enjoy yourself and drink beer at the same time! Print material such as entrepreneurial magazines and newspapers are less restricted, though regulated by provincial Liquor Boards. The same ethical limitations apply: do not link enjoyment with alcohol consumption; do not direct your ad to youth; do not over-promote; do not pass Go! Also, self-regulation within various media abounds.

In the United States a similar situation exists. The Federal Trade Commission and Congress are the key regulating authorities. In addition, individual media and media groups establish their own code of ethics, often refusing to publish or broadcast alcohol advertising.

The challenge? How do breweries and microbreweries get the word out about their products within an advertising marketplace of such limited visibility where self-promotion is frowned upon?

When traditional methods are not a viable option we must identify and utilize those of the future. One way breweries can take advantage of modern advertising options is to share your product with the world on the Internet.
You may already have a company website. Its fun, it positively promotes your product with enthusiasm as no TV ad is now permitted to do. Your T-shirts and ball caps have their own page. Potential customers are visiting your website on a regular basis, once they stumble across your site on a night of Internet surfing. However, is this kind of customer traffic really the most effective use of such a dynamic advertising tool? All that creative and technical effort and your audience consist of web junkies and the occasional salesperson trying to sell you something. The solution to this problem is targeted pixel marketing. Websites are being developed which help increase traffic on subject related web pages. For instance, pixel space for your beer label on the beer home page may be purchased for a reasonable cost. The label then links with your own webpage.

Beer festivals may be a long established custom, however the modern version is a true advertising event and increasingly popular, not only with the locals. Beer fans travel far to attend their favorite bash. To choose the festival which most suites your product, the Internet comes to the rescue once again. A number of websites list festivals. Check the bottom row of thebeerhomepage.com for the most popular beer festivals around the world.

Besides a shift in promotional methods, a fresh approach in attitude will go a long way in changing public perception of beer. Taking a leaf out the wine industrys book may be the answer. Wine sales have risen since their advertisers started promoting wine as a natural product, a healthy option, a sophisticated and educated choice, a compliment to food and equally popular with men and women. In fact, beer can also boast all these things, but its public perception is poor by comparison says Peter Kendal of Molson Coors Brewers. He continues, Beer is a wholesome, natural product, made from malted barley and hops. Moreover, moderate (and we stress moderate) beer drinking is just as healthy as moderate wine drinking.

To conclude, these are only a few examples of the way a modern approach to advertising need not battle with established regulations. A positive, open mind and a willingness to switch gears should lead to a healthy return on your advertising dollars.

Did you know that you can find stained glass deals if you look hard enough? There are a number of places to buy stained glass lets look at a few of them.

The easiest and least risky way to buy glass is in a kit. You can purchase kits online: simply search for stained glass kits and youll see dozens of online suppliers. Or you can buy kits at Michaels Arts and Crafts, Ben Franklin, or your local craft store. Many smaller craft stores.may not stock kits, but they will be glad to order what you want.

The kit will only include glass you need for the project; you dont have to worry about leftovers. If youre new to the hobby, start with a kit or two that way you wont invest in glass inventory you may find you dont need.

If you decide to buy glass in bulk, the first place to look is your local glass shop or craft shop. There are advantages and disadvantages to dealing with your local store. The advantages are clear: you can build up a business relationship with the store, you can inspect the glass before you purchase it, and you can ask questions and get advice from a knowledgeable source. The disadvantage is their selection may be limited and their prices may be higher than you can get from wholesale or discount glass companies. Of course, your local shop can order glass, but you lose the advantage of pre-inspecting the glass, and the price will probably be a little higher since the store will need to mark the glass up in order to make a profit.

If your store orders glass for you, ask if you can inspect it before you actually make the purchase. The color or texture in the catalog may not be the same as the color or texture you eventually receive.

There are a number of glass suppliers that can be found online. Simply search for stained glass supplies or stained glass and youll see hundreds of possibilities. If you decide to try an online supplier, make a small purchase the first time so you can evaluate their quality, professionalism, and service. When youre comparing price with your local shop, make sure you take into account shipping charges; the raw glass may be cheaper, but when combined with shipping costs the total transaction may cost more.

Some glass manufacturers sell sample sets. These are exactly what they sound like: packages with a variety of glass types and colors enclosed. Many smaller sample sets cost less than $15 or $20 at online supply stores. Typically larger craft stores like Ben Franklin carry very few glass sample sets; if they do, their selection will be limited, but if you check they may have just what you need. In general the sheets of glass are smaller than what youd normally buy, so youre not stuck with a lot of glass you may never use. If youre new to the hobby, arent sure what you want to make, and are interested in experimenting, a sample set can be an inexpensive way to try out different colors and techniques.

If you stay alert you may find great deals from local artisans or hobbyists. For instance, many hobbyists will sell glass if theyre preparing to move glass is hard to pack up and move, and many people wont want to bother. You may not find an opportunity like that often, but if you do, you can usually pay twenty-five percent or less for glass compared to what you would have paid retail.

Sometimes glass shops will also sell partial sheets at a large discount. If the partial sheet is large enough for your intended use, great! (Buying partial sheets is like buying carpet remnants.) Glass shops often also have For Sale bulletin boards for hobbyists to use to advertise leftover glass they want to sell keep an eye out for pieces you can use.

You can also find supplies and tools at yard sales make sure you have a wish list of tools with you and you may find exactly what youre looking for. You can also buy used tools on For Sale bulletin boards at glass shops; if a local craftsperson has upgraded to a more expensive grinder, for instance, they may be more than willing to sell you their used grinder for a fraction of its original cost.

There is much more to this story than written here. Stained glass can be incredibly interesting once you learn all about it…
